PEGASO - Personalised Guidance Services for Optimising lifestyle management in teen-agers through awareness, motivation and engagement
Obesity and diseases correlated with incorrect lifestyle are among the most difficult challenges on a European level, in the area of health activities and policies, representing 7% of the entire Union's health costs. A good degree of knowledge on how to adopt a healthier lifestyle and to maintain good health, is not however sufficient to motivate people. As regards this important issue, the PEGASO – Personalized Guidance Services for Optimising lifestyle management in teen-agers through awareness, motivation and engagement project developed a system that will exploit the mechanics of games to motivate behavioural changes towards healthy lifestyles and to prevent excess weight and obesity among young people.
The objective of PEGASO was to create an educational platform capable of raising awareness among children through group games and challenges. The project will develop a special smartphone application, a virtual community and refine an educational videogame. It will also use wearable devices capable of monitoring the physical parameters of the children, with the goal of preventing obesity and other health problems caused by reduced physical activity and incorrect diet. PEGASO is also oriented to families, schools and physicians, through sensitization initiatives with experts, in order to help disseminate the culture of a balanced diet.
The project, funded by the European Commission within the scope of the Seventh framework programme, ICT – Health, began in December 2013 and ended in May 2017.PEGASO was coordinated by Politecnico di Milano and Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, the partners were: Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Lombardia Informatica, Lifegate, Imaginary, Neos, Gruppo Sigla, University of Edinburgh, University of Nottingham, University of Coventry, Fundacio Privada Barcelona Digital Centre Tecnologic, Universidad De Lleida, Agencia d'Informacio Avaluacio i Qualitat en Salut, Bildungsberatung Till Becker & Co Gmbh, Csem Centre Suisse d'Electronique et de Microtechnique Sa - Recherche et Développement, Haute Ecole Specialisée de Suisse Occidentale and Ropardo.
