IDEA - Improving Damage assessments to Enhance cost-benefit Analyses

The “IDEA - Improving Damage assessments to Enhance cost-benefit Analyses” project aims to respond to the very limited reliability of data currently used to support cost benefit analysis in the field of natural hazards mitigation. It intends to support more effective mitigation measures in the aftermath of a disaster and show how improved data may better inform pre-event risk modeling. It will also address damage data to critical infrastructures and economic activities developing tools which will enable public administrations to manage damage and loss. The main outcome of this project will be the enhancement of the already existing information system embedding it in the administrative procedures so that stakeholders may carry out cost-benefit analyses of recovery and reconstruction investment.

The IDEA project is funded by the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO). The partners are Politecnico di Milano – Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (leading partner) together with Umbria Region Civil Protection, Oxford Brookes University, Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas and Catalunya Regional Civil Protection. Fondazione Politecnico di Milano cooperates to the project.
