APOLLO: new record in UK
01/07/2010

Excellent record for the Italian team MECC-SUN composed of engineers and students of the Dipartimento di Meccanica of the Politecnico di Milano (Department of Mechanic). They brought their experience in UK for the Shell Eco-marathon UK Youth Challenge, and the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano has supported the team at this competition.

During the race, held in Rockingham 29 to 30 June 2010, APOLLO, a solar prototype, reached the new record overall and first place for the category of vehicles to solar energy.

The numbers of APOLLO in Rockingham:
7070 km/l consumption that Apollo would have if it were gasoline powered
796: km by Apollo with a kilowatt-hour

The excellent performance of Apollo is evident. The old record for distance with a kilowatt-hour is equivalent to 665 km, and it was owned by Solar Car Solutions (France).

Next race: Shell Eco-marathon Asia, 8 to 10 July 2010, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
