The Politecnico di Milano has for many years offered support to businesses for research projects, consulting and advanced instruction, all of which integrate academic research (engineering and management) with the knowledge gained from constant interaction with enterprise and from the development of numerous joint projects.

The research activity is closely linked to the evolution of the economic, industrial and social context, with particular reference to:

• the phenomena of enterprise integration, market transformation and business logic change; 
• the progressive adoption of innovative organisational models for managing the development processes of new products and for organising production;
• the processes of internationalisation of the economy, of finance and of enterprise;
• the increasing relevance (at both operative and strategic levels) being assumed by environmental and countryside issues;
• the growing need to reorganise public administration, adopt new models of management and apply information and communication technologies.
