SmartDGlab Print version

SmartDGlab is an inter-faculty laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano which was set up to implement applied research in smart grids. The current technological frontier is addressing the necessity to integrate the electricity grid with appropriate communication channels and with innovative logic for planning, scheduling, supervising, controlling, regulating and protecting the electricity distribution systems.

The Fondazione Politecnico di Milano supports SmartDGlab by making its infrastructure available and by acting as a collection point for external companies and European research institutes.

Projects active to date with which SmartDGlab is working are:

  • Milano Wi-Power, a project for field experimentation with advanced communication technologies for the interface between electricity substations (on the electricity distribution grid) and active users connected to them. Participating in the project are: Politecnico di Milano, A2A, Thytronic, Selta, ERSE, MobiMesh, and interest has been expressed by the Autorità per l'energia elettrica e il gas (Italian Authority for Electrical Energy and Gas) and by the Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano (Italian Electrotechnical Committee)

  • AlpEnergy, a European project for regional cooperation that brings together energy producers, development agencies, research institutes and local administrations in five different countries (France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland) of the Spazio Alpino (Alpine Space), aimed at developing innovative techniques for coordinating generation and load, at the individual distribution grid level
