EDUFIN@POLIMI intends to develop an innovative training model for teaching secondary school students about financial matters
The initiative
The lack of financial education is a serious problem and affects a significant portion of Italy’s population. EDUFIN@POLIMI slots into this landscape, with its action to extend financial training by testing innovative methods of “doing teaching” in complex subjects. The initiative intends to develop an innovative training model for teaching secondary school students about financial matters. This outcome will be pursued through three objectives. First, by applying the innovative teaching method known as the Flipped Classroom, where maths teachers will spend part of their lessons teaching financial education topics. Second, by running a Financial Treasure Hunt in the area of Milan, a team game where students have to solve financial puzzles. Third, by building the www.imparalafinanza.it hub, which will host a multimedia section on financial education topics. The project is designed for secondary school students in Milan, their maths teachers and the general public (especially the students’ families).

Technical details
The project consists of five phases: planning and setting up the required project material; carrying out the initiative in various schools and at Politecnico di Milano (January 2019 – May 2019); evaluation of the work (June 2019 – October 2020) to revise and consolidate the designated material and fine-tuning the second intervention cycle, to be carried out in the fourth phase (November 2019 – May 2020); and lastly analyse the experience and its impact to determine the project’s efficacy.
