Reinventing Cities Vitae
The City of Milan and the C40 together for a more sustainable city of the future
January 2019
- March 2022

The initiative
Reinventing Cities is a global competition organised by the C40 to seek abandoned and/or underutilised sites available for urban and environmental regeneration projects. Among the projects selected is “Vitae”, an initiative to breath new light into Milan’s Ripamonti quarter with a zero-energy building in Via Serio. The building is by architect Carlo Ratti in collaboration with Habitech, with the support of Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and Ifom, the Italian Institute of Oncology. The objective is to create a single area where public and private life come together harmoniously, with green open spaces and offices. The entire work is inspired by the social and architectural model of European monasteries.
The role of the Foundation
Fondazione Politecnico di Milano is a partner in the initiative
