FPM US projects on the New York stage at the “World of Excellence” Gala

Empowering girls to study science subjects and self-drive vehicles. These are just two of the projects presented at the first FPM US “World of Excellence” Gala on the 27th of October in New York.

The objective was to promote initiatives helping talented and innovative youngsters, and create ties with companies, whilst reaffirming the excellence of Politecnico di Milano on the other side of the Atlantic.

“Through Fellows of Politecnico di Milano.US (FPM.US) – stated Donatella Sciuto, Rector of Politecnico di Milano – we want not only to reach our Alumni, but also to strengthen the links of Politecnico di Milano with the US universities and businesses, build a bridge between creativity and innovation and promote our international dimension. Politecnico di Milano is the first and largest technical university in Italy and one of the top twenty globally, according to the QS World Rankings: 8th in Design, 10th in Architecture and 18th in Engineering. Participate in European networks of excellence, such as Idea League and Enhance. We firmly believe that the time has come to step forward: global challenges require broader vision and cooperation. We have the skills and expertise to do it.”

Throughout the evening, the following projects were presented: the Girls@Polimi scholarships dedicated to supporting access to STEM study courses for young girls; 1000MAD, the self-driving vehicle project of Politecnico di Milano, coordinated by Sergio Savaresi, Director of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Polytechnic of Milan; NECSTLab, the laboratory dedicated to emerging information technologies that aims to combine scientific research and teaching coordinated by Marco Domenico Santambrogio, Full Professor of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, “trainee programs“, FPM US project to implement and facilitate the introduction of Polimi excellence in the US world and support companies on the American market with the know-how of the Alumni of Politecnico di Milano.

“Politecnico di Milano and its Foundation are working on the creation of concrete initiatives in order to support the training of the future ruling class of the country – stated Luigi De Nardo, Professor of Politecnico di Milano present at the event and VP of FPM.US – The projects for which we launched the fundraiser are a concrete demonstration of the University’s excellence in design, architecture and engineering and testify the ability to innovate with impact of our researchers, who face great challenges every day of modernity. The network we are building with the USA brings people, our students and Alumni, back to the center of these challenges, with whom we build a sustainable future on a daily basis in close collaboration with the institutions and the business world that have a transatlantic internationalization perspective”.

The event was attended by, among others, Mauro Porcini, President of FPM US, Andrea Sianesi, President of Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, Enrico Zio, Rector’s Delegate for Alumni and Individual Fundraising, Patrizio Sbaragli, VP FPM US, Annalisa Conti, VP FPM US, Eugenio Gatti, Director of the Polytechnic Foundation of Milan, Luigi De Nardo, Academic Senator of Politecnico di Milano, Federico Zanella, Sebastiano Peluso and Paolo Ciuccarelli, Board Members FPM US, Ingrid Paoletti, Vice President of Fondazione Politecnico di Milano.

Fellows of Politecnico di Milano.US, Inc. FPM.US was established in 2021 in New York, and it is dedicated to supporting and spearheading the vision of Politecnico di Milano in the United States of America.
Its board includes industry and academic professional leaders who are building cultural alliances and industry partnerships between Italy and the US.
