MARSS brings augmented reality to Brera’s Museum of Astronomy

On the 27th of February 2023, Brera’s Museum of Astronomy (MusAB) sprung into life, and now visitors can play with the astronomic instruments, touch them, open them and listen to them.

MARSS (MusAB in Augmented Reality from Science to Society) is a project financed by Fondazione Cariplo as part of its programme “Places of cultural innovation”. Through its agency, the Museum of the Astronomic Observatory of Brera (MusAB) proudly presents its new exciting interactive tour based on augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), giving visitors an amazing immersive experience. Its aim is to create a “talking” museum collection to guide visitors in their journey of discovery through the history of astronomy, where they also learn about the Observatory’s place in the city of Milan.

MARSS was the outcome of the work and expertise at Politecnico di Milano (project partner), founded on material collected and preserved by INAF – Astronomical Observatory of Brera, with the contribution of Engineering Associates, Zelda Compagnia Teatrale Professionale, Box Record and Fondazione Politecnico di Milano.

The MARSS app will be publicly available from 3-5 March during the exhibition MuseoCity 2023.
