SIMILE Lake Monitoring, protecting the water of our lakes: the new version is now online

SIMILE lets you take an active part in monitoring lakes and protecting their waters. The app now also runs on IOS devices.

The new updated version of SIMILE Lake Monitoring is now online. The app has been developed by Politecnico di Milano with the support of the Water Research Institute (IRSA-CNR) and Arpa Lombardia, as part of citizen science within the SIMILE project.

SIMILE Lake Monitoring” is now even more simple and user-friendly, designed for everyone who wishes to look after the environment.

It takes just a few minutes for app users to help monitor the waters of Lake Como, Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. Users can view material on the interactive map, send photographs and other information about what they are observing (algae, foam, rubbish), forward the values of certain parameters (such as water transparency, temperature and pH), learn about lake environments and the organisms living there using a glossary, and find out about the environmental initiatives in programme in their area.

Data gathered through the app will be integrated with information downloaded from satellite images and sensors installed on buoys, to gain a more comprehensive picture of the state of the lakes. The new application allows users to access the project’s web app, which is an additional tool that can be used by institutions and citizens to consult the data gathered more rapidly and effectively.
