Empty to return, projects for the reinterpretation and reuse of spaces in public buildings is the second volume of the “Quaderni di Polisocial“, an editorial initiative carried out by the social responsibility program of the Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the Foundation. The volume traces the experience of Polisocial’s experimental field education program, conducted by teachers and students of the Polytechnic, and in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, to address an important issue for the city: the reactivation of empty and unused spaces in the public building.

The operation was carried out with four approaches: urban policies, urban design, interior design, service design. An example of the reactivation of the spaces was experimented with the exhibition of the spaces in via Solari, 40 with the former bakery, the accommodation under the threshold and the summer garden. The exhibition remained open during the days of the Salone del Mobile 2014.
