“This novel approach to mammograms is based on the new DeHCA biomarker to give very early diagnosis”, Danilo Gennari, sole director of Novaura
The initiative
A new ultrasound mammogram. Breast cancer is a serious disease, especially if not identified in time, and unfortunately affects one woman in eight over the course of her lifespan. Fast Breast Check is designed to give women facts, but also to help them be actively involved in trying to prevent the onset of cancer. The initiative proposes a major innovation to the screening process, particularly for women in the 30 to 49 age group, where the challenge was to: improve the current system of breast cancer prevention; reduce breast cancer-related direct and indirect costs; and create the first non-iodising optical radiation equipment in Lombardy, using the DeHCA biomarker to get early diagnosis.
The role of the Foundation
Fondazione Politecnico di Milano collaborated with the initiative
Technical details
Fast Breast Check receives funding from Regione Lombardy within its call for collaboration in R&D (Bando Linea R&S per Aggregazioni) under POR ERDF 2014 – 2020. The initiative took its first steps in December 2016, with the joint work of the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” and that of Management Engineering, the biomedical company Novaura and the emerging startup Veespo. Veespo gathered and organised data provided by patients and clinicians in evaluation surveys.
